Soundboard

Play local clips to nearby players — sound folder, hotkeys, volumes, search, playback controls and URL downloads

這一頁還沒有翻譯,以下顯示英文原文。

The soundboard lets you trigger a local sound clip that is transmitted to nearby players as its own audio channel, independent of your microphone:

  • Muting your mic does not silence the soundboard, but a listener's own deafen state still blocks it, same as it blocks mic audio.
  • Soundboard audio follows the same distance, world, visibility and spectator rules as voice, and moves with you.
  • A server can turn the soundboard off entirely with soundboard-enabled, or deny it per player/group with the socketsvc.soundboard permission (see Permissions). Blocked clips show a notice in the action bar.

Press U to open the soundboard. You must be connected to voice to play clips; otherwise it shows "Connect to voice to use the soundboard."

Older servers

If the server doesn't support the soundboard channel yet, the screen shows "This server doesn't support the soundboard channel yet - clips play through your own microphone instead." Clips are then sent over your microphone channel, and concurrent playback is unavailable.

Adding sounds

  1. Click "Open folder..." to open the soundboard folder, config/socketsvc/soundboard/ in the game directory.
  2. Drop WAV, MP3, OGG, Opus, FLAC or AIFF files into it. Subfolders become categories.
  3. Back in game, click "Refresh".

Folders are listed before clips, each sorted by name. Click a folder to enter it and ".. Back" to go up a level. You can also download audio from a URL.

Favorites, volumes, loop flags, start points and hotkey slots are saved by the clip's path relative to the soundboard folder, so moving or renaming a file resets them.

Concurrent playback

  • When off, starting a clip stops whatever is playing.
  • When on, different clips can play simultaneously, up to 10; starting another stops the one that started earliest.
  • Triggering the same clip again always restarts it rather than stacking a duplicate.
  • Turning the option off keeps only the current clip and stops the rest.

Clip rows

Each clip is one row, left to right:

ControlDescription
★ / ☆Toggle favorite
● / ○Add to / remove from the quick-pick wheel
P / LSwitch which volume the slider edits: P player volume (what others hear), L local volume (what you hear)
- / 1–10Hotkey slot; click to cycle 1 → 2 → … → 10 → unassigned
∞Loop this sound
■Stop this clip (only shown while it's playing)
NameClick to play; clicking while it plays restarts it from the top
Volume slider0–200%, default 100%; drag, or focus it and use ←/→ (hold Shift for 10% steps)

Local vs. player volume

Each clip has two independent volumes:

  • Player volume (P) — what other players hear.
  • Local volume (L) — what you hear.

The two paths are scaled and limited separately so one never affects the other; the soundboard master volume multiplies both.

On the listening side, Players' soundboard on the General tab sits beside "Voice volume" and is one master over every other player's clips. It is named for who it applies to because there are two soundboard masters pointing in opposite directions, and a bare "soundboard volume" on a settings screen reads as your own. It is independent of voice, so you can quiet a room full of soundboards without quieting the people in it; 0% silences incoming clips entirely. The "Voice volume" master applies on top of it, to received soundboard audio as well as to voice.

Per-player soundboard volume

Earlier versions gave every player a second slider for their soundboard under Player volume. It doubled the length of the roster for a control almost nobody used, and has been removed in favour of the single master above. Any per-player value still in your config file is honoured, and a player muted this way is restored to their previous volume the next time the config loads, so nobody stays silenced by a control that no longer exists.

The soundboard master volume on this screen is the sending side and does not affect what you hear from anyone else.

Hotkey slots

There are 10 hotkey slots, bound as "Soundboard slot 1" through "Soundboard slot 10" (unbound by default):

  1. Click the slot number on a clip row to assign it to a slot. Each slot holds one clip; assigning replaces whatever clip was in that slot.
  2. Bind a key to that slot under the "SocketSVC Voice" category in Minecraft's Controls settings.
  3. Press it in game (with no screen open) to play the clip.

Now-playing bar

While a clip plays, a bar docked at the bottom of the screen shows its name and "position / duration":

ControlDescription
PositionThe clip's waveform, lit up to where it has played. Click or drag to seek - so the loud part can be found before jumping to it. Appears once the clip's duration is known
LoopToggle looping for this clip
Back 5s / Forward 5sSkip relative to the current position
Pause / ResumePausing stops sending and local playback; resuming continues from the same point
StopStop the clip
Set start to current positionRemembers the current position (the button shows the current start, e.g. 0:12); triggering the clip later starts from there
  • A clip's duration is scanned on first play and cached by relative path and file modification time, so it is rescanned if the file changes.
  • The waveform is worked out in the background the first time a clip is shown, and kept for the last 32 clips the same way. Until it is ready - a second or so for a long MP3 - the position bar is a plain line.
  • A custom start point only applies when the clip is triggered; each loop iteration restarts from the beginning.
  • Seeking decodes from the start of the file up to the target, so long jumps in long clips can take a moment.

Quick-pick wheel

The "Soundboard quick pick (hold + scroll)" binding is unbound by default; bind it in Controls first.

  1. Click ○ on a clip row to add the clip to the wheel.
  2. In game, hold the quick-pick key. A 3×3 grid appears in the middle of the screen (the center cell is a Stop button) with up to 8 clips per page. The game is not paused.
  3. Move the mouse over a clip and release the key to play it, or left-click it.
  • A clip that is already playing shows a ■ stop mark; picking it stops that clip instead of restarting it.
  • Releasing over (or clicking) the center Stop button, or releasing outside the grid, stops all soundboard playback.
  • Esc cancels without playing.
  • More than 8 clips are split into pages; switch with the scroll wheel, ←/→, or the arrows at either side.
  • Click "Edit" to open the full soundboard.
  • If the wheel is empty, a hint tells you to add clips from the Soundboard menu.

Downloading from a URL

Paste an http:// or https:// URL into the URL field and click "Download" to extract its audio as a clip.

Before downloading, "Download from a URL?" explains that this downloads and runs yt-dlp, a separate third-party program not made by SocketSVC, to fetch audio from the URL you provide, and that SocketSVC does not control or check whatever site or content that URL points to. Only download from sources you trust, and only content you actually have the right to use.

"Download" consents for this download only, so you'll be asked again next time; "Don't ask again & Download" stops the prompt for good.

Tool downloads

The first time, yt-dlp is downloaded automatically into config/socketsvc/ytdlp/, at the version the update service recommends and SHA-256 verified.

Audio extraction also needs ffmpeg. A system ffmpeg is always preferred; otherwise a verified static build is downloaded automatically on Windows and Linux. macOS has no automatic download — install it yourself (e.g. brew install ffmpeg) and restart the game.

Both stay current on their own: see Tools. A failed download usually means yt-dlp is out of date because the site changed, so the first failure in a session also checks for a newer yt-dlp; try again a minute later.

Extraction

While downloading, the URL field is replaced by a progress line and a "Cancel" button. The audio is converted to MP3, named after the video title, and saved into the folder currently open (the root folder when browsing Favorites). The list refreshes automatically when it finishes.

  • Only one download runs at a time. If a URL points to both a video and a playlist, only that video is downloaded; the playlist is not expanded.
  • Failures show "Download failed:" with the reason; after cancelling, the URL stays in the field so you can retry.
