Default client key bindings and /ssvc commands

Default key bindings

Bindings live under the "SocketSVC Voice" category in Minecraft's Controls settings and can be changed there.

Binding nameDefaultPurpose
Open voice settingsVOpen SocketSVC settings; also works on the title screen, before joining a world or server
Push to talkBIn Push to talk mode, hold to talk and release to stop
Toggle microphone muteMToggle microphone mute; the mic cannot be turned on while incoming voice is off
Toggle incoming voiceNToggle deafen; turning incoming voice off also mutes the mic, and turning it back on restores the previous mute state
Toggle speaking indicatorHToggle the bottom-left HUD status icon (same as the "Speaking indicator" setting)
Open soundboardUOpen the soundboard
Open voice groupsGOpen the voice groups menu; it also explains itself on a server that has groups switched off
Soundboard quick pick (hold + scroll)UnboundHold to open the quick-pick overlay; releasing plays the highlighted clip
Soundboard slot 1–10UnboundPlay the clip assigned to that slot
  • Apart from V on the title screen, these keys only act while no other screen is open.
  • These keys do nothing on a server where Simple Voice Chat or Plasmo Voice is connected and SocketSVC isn't running, so the other mod gets them. See Running alongside another voice chat mod.
  • Existing key bindings are kept; to pick up new default keys after an upgrade, change or reset them manually.
  • Mute and deafen states are saved and do not reset when you restart the game.
  • On Fabric with Mod Menu installed, settings can also be opened from Mod Menu.

/ssvc status

Prints the following:

Example output
SocketSVC status:
  Connection: Connected
  Muted: Off, Deafened: Off
Mic RMS level: 120 (threshold 300)
  Frames sent this session: 1532
  Input device: System default
  Output device: System default

The threshold is the voice detection threshold currently in effect (fixed at 300 in Automatic mode).

/ssvc reconnect

Voice normally reconnects automatically after a drop, so this command is rarely needed. Use it when automatic retries have stopped:

  • Requires an updated server that supports token re-requests.
  • Limited to one request every 5 seconds, matching the server's protection. On success it replies "Requested a new voice token. Please wait; requests are limited to once every 5 seconds."
  • If a request can't be made right now it replies "Cannot connect right now. Please try again later."

Microphone volume

Adjust "Microphone volume" (0–200%, default 100%) on the General settings tab. Changes apply immediately and are saved when settings close:

  • 0% sends silence; above 100% amplifies with limiting.
  • Applies in both automatic and manual gain modes and does not change the voice activation threshold.
  • The microphone test level on the Advanced tab still shows the input before this volume adjustment.
  • This only requires an updated client.

See Settings for everything else.
